About Practical Creativity
I have been a creative thinker my entire life. During my Detroit childhood in the 1960s, I was the kid that always got into trouble for telling outrageous stories and doing things differently than everyone else. For many years, well into adulthood, I was perplexed by a culture that seemed to laud creative thinking on one hand, yet at the same time punish nonconformist ideas or expression. It has taken literally years of trial and error, and with a mindset dedicated to personal growth and exploration, to bring me to the full understanding of that creative thinking is truly a double-edged sword. In reality, unbridled creativity is often counter-productive – but creativity channeled into mature, practical applications is key to personal and professional success.
Indeed, in today’s fast-paced, global business environment, creative thinking and the ability to adapt to ever-changing needs are skills that are crucial for business survival. But simply thinking out of the box isn’t enough; you need to be able to translate your innovative ideas and energy into practical action.
In this blog, Practical Creativity, I explore creative new ideas and observations by others and myself – with a strong focus on practical application. My goal is to help you recognize and nurture your own creative genius, and to tap into that energy to build success at work and at home. The good news is that creativity is contagious; you can use your creative influence over time to build the networks and teams you need to help bring your ideas to life and meet your personal and organizational objectives.
What’s in it for you? If you think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, let me show you where you might just be mistaken. Already too creative for your own good?
